Going back to Smith!

Hey,
I just wanted to let you know that I am officially going back to Smith next semester. I don't know the house yet, unfortunately, but I am hoping I get back into Gillett. I've already been emailing Liz Hait about it.

ALSO. I got an A in my History class that I took this semester. I am not sure if it will be factored into a GPA or help get me into Grad School, but I guess it couldn't hurt. I am planning to take Intro to Neuroscience, The Child Clinical Seminar on Divorce and the Family, and Difference among learners. All require instructor permission to I gotta email them now that I know I am officially coming back. I am also thinking about Buddhism in America, Clinical psychology, a Dance Class, or the History of Architecture 1949 to present (or something like that). But I might only take 3 classes.

I am feeling a lot better and really excited to go back to Smith! (and play in the Snow!)

After discarding the idea of being Sailor Moon or another Sailor Scout for Halloween, because it would be too expensive, I decided to be Eponine from Les Mis. She's Cosette's Step Sister (sort of ) and sacrifices herself at the Barricades at the end of the novel/play.

I was thinking of dress as a boy because at the end of the novel/play she dresses as a boy and get shot. So anyway, not sure what costume or props I'll have.

Yesteday morning, I ran for an hour and things seemed so much better after that. I than met-up with a friend from Smith who also happens to be taking a semester off. Anyway, my friend, my twin, and I went to see The September Issue, a documentary about Vogue. It was pretty interesting. I like the artistic part of fashion, the photography, the couture, etc but I don't like how its so fake and materialistic. (and how non of the clothes would fit me).

So Things on Tap:
-My friend was taking courses at the local community college, so that reminded me that I wanted to try and take a for credit class in the Fall II term. The only ones that Smith would approve (non-professional, in person classes, haven't taken already), are Intro to Sociology and American History 1860-Today. I am called them today to make sure I can still register and than email my adviser and set that in motion. I figured that the 3 credits would be a big help later on, because than I would only HAVE to take 13 credits for both semester I have left. (Assuming I get 1 credit during J-term). I probably would take a full-load anyway, but that way there is a cushion. I actually really wanted to take an Intro Spanish Class, but Smith won't approve it if its not a full year. Darn. Even so, it would get me back doing academic work...

-I am sort of volunteering at the local library too. I've only done it twice so far and its just been putting away books, but again it gives me something to do that has an immediate impact.

-I started studying for the GREs for when my class starts in 3 weeks (same time as the fall II classes). I am also taking a drawing class for fun on Mondays, starting next week. At the moment I am just dusting off the books and starting to memorize the words. About half the 500 words, I don't even have a clue about! And I thought I had a pretty good vocabulary...

Next week I am going to Montreal. The following week on Thursday (October 15), I might be going to visit Smith for the weekend with my friend. I just need a person to host me. I already asked someone, but if anyone still at Smith would like to let me crash with them, that would be great! Anyway, it would be really great to go in the fall and my friend will have a car, so I can go to places I normally can't go. Plus I really want to get some books that I left there, take inventory of my stuff in the trunk room and retrieve my (cute Hello Kitty) humidifier. Just came back from Florida. So still lots of traveling planned!

Anyway! I miss everyone! I am also planning on seeing a different movie in theaters every week or so.

Wedding Dress searching!

Today there was a "Say Yes to the Dress" Marathon. Since I thought it would get me ideas for my own dress. But all the dresses just looked to UGLY!!! Expensive, ugly, over the top dresses. Ever since I was a little girl I had this vision of what I want my wedding dress to look like. I want it to be light, flowly, off-white, mid-thigh length (planning to walk barefoot down the aisle) dress. I am thinking some flowers designs stitched into it. Not sure if I want long flowy sleeves or thin shoulder straps. Basically I want to look like a fairy princess! I may even get fairy wings and a flower crown. I definitely don't want an organza mess that you can barely move in that costs $12000!!! I am making sketches of it right now because I think this may involve getting it custom made and/or going to multiple stores...

Although Honestly, I could get married in a hospital gown and it would still be one of the happiest days of my life!

Our wedding will be Pagan-Themed and take place between the June Full Moon and the Summer Solstice 2011.

So I decided since I have nothing to do (stupid background check forms haven't come back!!!), I that I would cook dinner at least once a week for Andrew and my parents on days when my dad has meetings. I thought I wouldn't be able to pull off anything but with a little help from Eating Well and Trader Joe"s my meals have been been getting rave reviews. I decided to do themes, I did Tex Mex and American last week and Chinese the week before that. Next time, Monday, I am doing Italian.

This is the Menu:

Course 1) Tomato and Basil Salad with Fresh Mozzarella topped with Pepper and Olive Oil
Course 2a) Whole Wheat Spaghetti with "faux Meat" sauce (perhaps some with real ground beef as well). Basically just mixing my veggie crumble with tomato sauce)
Course 2b) Roasted veggies (mushrooms, eggplant, carrots, peppers)
Course 3) Italian Almond cookies or possibly simple fruit cake with blueberries
3
Simple. Hopefully tasty.

In other news I might be getting a refurbished MacBook Pro this summer. My sister has one and loves it and my 3 year old computer has maybe one good year left. (battery needs replacing, slowing down, and crashes despite repeated spyware checks). I need good security and I decided I like Macs since coming to Smith. This time I am DEFINITELY getting a warrenty.

Also I WANT MY FREAKING GRADES!!!!

Andrew and I have been jokingly talked about renting a cabin in the woods this spring/summer. But it was one of those things that I decided wouldn't work out. But last night Andrew asked me when what weekends I was free in Late May/Early June because the cabin reservation lady wants to know. He is going to surprise me with a cabin for our anniversary! (approx June 1st). Also I had propose that we rent the rustic cabins because they are literally $10 a night, but Andrew said that he wants to get the modern ones that weren't build in the 30's. I am so excited. I hope it works out.

He did say he was going to spend the money on Wizard World (nerd convention) but he decided he'd rather spend the time with me! At least that's something to look forward to.
I went to a football match last night. We were required to go for my Danish class. I was planning to leave early but the bus never came so I ended up getting up around 11:30pm anyway. Whatever. I overslept this morning (stupid alarm clock) but the Gods smiled at me and the class was cancelled (didn't know till I got there). So Now I'm supposed to be working on a paper that was due last Friday and is DEFINITELY due tomorrow. Sort of not working. I am exhausted despite lots of sleep in the last couple of days (and not doing much work).

I don't feel particarily sad, so my new theory is that I have Mono and don't know it. I have a fever on and off, a continous sore throat. At least one of my lymph nodes is swollen ( think). And I've been feeling sick for like 3 weeks now. Or I could just be homesick. Again I am not sure if I should see a doctor or wait till I get back or what. (It would totally suck not to be able to kiss Andrew).

Fall Classes and Update.

So I came back from Iceland on Friday night. It was an AMAZING experience. Andrew and I have talked about going together one day (He loves Iceland and always wanted to visit). The only thing is we didn't get to go horse-back riding! (it was raining and there wasn't enough time).

Tomorrow morning I'm going to Finland. I am pretty excited but I currently have a cold and I am not sure what I'm going to do there. Sadly I'll probably have to work on my papers and exploring on my own. I might go back to Estonia because its just a short ferry right away. Anyway, I will also be sending postcards and hopefully visiting a Sauna.

My adviser still hasn't gotten back to me about Praxis and classes for the Fall but I am pretty sure I'm taking these classes. Fortunately I don't need a registration code from them. I just wanted her input. (I am planning to register right at 8am EST like I always do).

Classes I am registering for: (will drop one later on)

American Middle and High School with Carol Berner

Learning and Behavior Change with Dave Palmer (I love him!)

The Presidential Seminar on Happiness and Buddhism with Phil Peake and Jamie Hubbard ( I hope I get in)

The Presidential Seminar on JYA & Culture Shock with Joel Westerdale of the German Department (sounds interesting and my advisor is always encouraging me to take non-psych classes).

Couseling Theory and Education with Sue Freedman.

Possible Courses:
Personality Psychology at UMass (I just don't think it will be able to make it with PVTA)
Physiology of Behavior with Beth Powell

I am also hoping to be a proctor for Psy 101 and perhaps doing research with Randy Frost (he offered a position to me last year but I was going abroad). I just don't wanna burn out considering I also have to do grad school apps.

I think I'm going to drop my education minor or at least I am not going to go out of my way to do it.

According to the people on Student Doctor, I might actually have a chance at getting in to a doctor of psychology (PsyD) program! If not I found out that you can become a licensed therapist and practice with just a masters in counseling (MS/LMHC) so I'm looking into that route as well.

Now since Andrew and I realized that neither of us can stand to be apart for long, and we don't wanna move across the country (especially since we may have to live at home). I have to find a program I like (and can get a loan or funding for) in the Eastern PA, NJ, or Southern New York. I might apply to others as well but I just can't see us moving to Chicago or Florida in the next few years.

Also the other good news is that according to several reports I heard, 2010 is when the recovery will happen! Seriously we have been in a recession since like 2002! This has got to end! I really want things to look up by the time I graduate.

I got back into Gillett House! Also I got elected SAA! And my roomdraw number is 55!!!!! So that means I'll probably get 2nd or 3rd pick.
So my parents are here this week and we have been doing things together. Today we went to Sweden! Of course this means my school work has taken a back seat. Today was a huge improvement over yesterday. Were I learned that I did not do so well on my Danish oral midterm and I sent an HOUR! Trying to find an office that was 1 kilometer away! Fortunately I was still able to conduct an interview although they did not want to be recorded.
